Green agate is a banded chalcedony tinted green by iron compounds or chlorite inclusions. Ancient Egyptians associated it with fertility and the life-giving waters of the Nile. In Islamic tradition, green agate is considered highly auspicious and is used in prayer beads and rings. It symbolises nature, renewal, and continuous growth.

- Everyday uses
- One of the earliest gemstones used in jewellery and amulets across the ancient world. The agate trade through Khambhat, India has been active for over 4,000 years continuously. Used in chemical laboratories as mortars and pestles because agate is inert and very hard. Decorative art objects: slices used as coasters, clocks, lamp bases, and wall art. Used historically in the handles of ceremonial daggers and royal accessories.
- Spiritual meaning
- Green agate resonates with the heart chakra and the energy of growth and renewal. It is excellent for healing the body and emotions after illness or trauma, improving concentration, and attracting abundance. It encourages a balanced, grounded approach to life and supports those rebuilding their health or confidence.
- Formation
- Green agate forms inside volcanic cavities through slow silica deposition. The green colour results from iron silicate minerals (chlorite or celadonite) or ferrous iron being incorporated into the silica layers during formation over millions of years.
- Where it is found
