Red jasper is an opaque, microcrystalline variety of quartz coloured red by iron oxide. It was used as a talisman across ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Rome. Native American cultures called it 'the blood of Mother Earth' and used it in rain-calling and war ceremonies.

- Everyday uses
- One of the oldest known gemstones — red jasper seals and amulets date back over 4,500 years. Used by ancient Egyptians in funeral rites, particularly connected to the blood of Isis. Idar-Oberstein in Germany has been a jasper carving centre for 500 years. Decorative stone for bowls, vases, and ornamental carvings in Russian imperial arts.
- Spiritual meaning
- Red jasper is the stone of endurance, providing steady energy and strength to those who feel exhausted, depleted, or depressed. It grounds scattered energy, stimulates the root chakra, and nurtures a deep connection to the earth. Excellent for those recovering from illness or emotional crisis.
- Formation
- Jasper forms through the silicification of fine-grained sediments or volcanic ash by silica-rich fluids. Red jasper's colour comes from hematite (iron oxide) inclusions distributed evenly through the microcrystalline quartz matrix.
