Dalmatian jasper is a white to cream-coloured stone with distinctive black and brown spots resembling the coat of a Dalmatian dog. The spots are actually tourmaline and other mineral inclusions within a matrix of quartz and feldspar. Found only in Chihuahua, Mexico, it is unique among jaspers and beloved for its joyful, playful energy.

- Everyday uses
- Popular decorative gemstone used in jewellery, carvings, tumbled stones, and ornamental objects. Used in Feng Shui to bring fun, playfulness, and positive energy into a home or workspace. Collected as a mineral specimen due to its charming and distinctive appearance. Carved into animal figurines — particularly fitting given its name.
- Spiritual meaning
- Dalmatian jasper is the stone of joy and childlike wonder. It is particularly powerful for those suffering from depression, disillusionment, or a sense that life has lost its meaning — it reconnects people with simple pleasures and genuine happiness. It strengthens loyalty in relationships and encourages a positive, playful outlook on life.
- Formation
- Dalmatian stone is technically not a true jasper but an igneous rock composed primarily of alkali feldspar and quartz with inclusions of black tourmaline (schorl). It forms through the cooling of silica-rich magma. The distinctive spots are tourmaline crystals that grew within the rock as it solidified.
- Where it is found
- Dalmatian jasper is found almost exclusively in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. This makes it a relatively rare stone compared to other jaspers, which are found worldwide. Some similar material has been reported from a few other locations but Chihuahua remains the primary commercial source.
